Strata, UW Health team up to bring genomic testing to more cancer patients

Strata Oncology partnered with UW Health to integrated its next generation sequencing tumor profiling test into the health system’s Epic EHR. Being able to order the test and see its results from within the EHR will help UW clinicians more efficiently leverage genomic findings into their precision oncology treatment plans.

Epic introduces genomic test ordering tool within EHR with Ochsner as first user

Ochsner Health added a tool to its Epic EHR that allows physicians to seamlessly order genomics tests and view results within the EHR. The integration will allow physicians to provide more personalized and effective care now that they can have a single view of their patients’ genomic and clinical data in one place. The news comes two months after MU Health Care added a similar tool into its Oracle Cerner EHR.

Illumina to acquire early cancer detection startup Grail for $8B
Illumina originally spun off Grail in early 2017. Grail plans to launch its test for early detection of cancers, Galleri, next year. Illumina already owns 14.5% of the company, which it started in 2016.

CMS to cover next-generation sequencing for inherited breast, ovarian cancers
Under the decision, Medicare patients with inherited cancer mutations such as BRCA will receive coverage for NGS testing. Drugs that treat BRCA-mutated breast and ovarian cancers include AstraZeneca’s Lynparza and Pfizer’s Talzenna.

Foundation Medicine touts concordance ahead of FDA ruling on liquid biopsy test
The company filed for FDA approval of the FoundationOne Liquid test at the end of December. Data from a clinical trial presented at an October conference showed the test had a strong ability to detect a genetic driver mutation in lung cancer.
